She made history after being the first woman elected Mayor of the capital Libreville in 2014, and now she has done it again! This time as the first woman to be appointed to the high office in the land – as Prime Minister of Gabon.
The 56-year-old Prime Minister officially took the reins on the 16th of July 2020. She is not new to senior leadership in Gabonese government structures. She started her political career as Director General of Economy and also headed the Ministries of Defence and Budget. Her hard work and popularity saw her being catapulted to Deputy Director-General of the Housing Bank of Gabon. An economist by profession, Prime Minister Ossouka Raponda is expected to address countless governance issues, mend the delicate political environment, and most importantly turn around an ailing Gabonese economy and guide the country’s financial Coronavirus disease pandemic strategies.
